Greetings from the cold mountain top! Whispering Winds gladly welcomes Sacred Heart School, Brawley, St. Mary's, Escondido, and St. John of the Cross, Lemon Grove to our 6th Grade Camp. There are over 100 6th graders here and we are having a wonderful week so far.
Yesterday was an exciting day of meeting new people, getting into our tribes, finding our "tree-mail", creating our tribe flag, re-enacting the parables of Jesus, going on a night hike, and closing with prayers for our friends and families. It was a little colder than we anticipated but we had hot and melty s'mores to warm ourselves up.
Tuesday is a blustery, rainy, and SNOWY day! Yes, it snowed today! It also hailed all afternoon and looked like Dip-n-Dots falling from the sky. We traded our morning hike for a movie and popcorn. We watched "Akeelah and the Bee" which is a true story about a 6th grader who wins the National Spelling Bee. We brought our pillows and sleeping bags to the warm and cozy conference room and enjoyed the movie while it snowed outside.
Then we learned about various exotic animals from Jessie and Wild Wonders. We were able to see and touch a Porcupine, Bearded Dragon, Hairy Armadillo, Kinkajou, Alligator, and a Chinchilla! Everyone got to touch the Alligator named Gucci. It was pretty awesome.
We all rested after lunch and the amazing hail storm and then we were off to crafts to create beautiful bead necklaces/bracelets, rope rosaries, lanyards, etc.
Tonight is our talent show and I am sure we will be highly entertained!
We start each morning off with morning praise where we sing our praises to God and have a chance to dance a little too.
Tomorrow is our Amazing Race day! Which tribes will win??? To be continued...
